Z e r o

A ritual calling for personal and collective transformation cultivated on a cellular level. In a time of enforced isolation what emerges when combining incantations connected to gut-intelligence and knowledge produced by the body? A meditative study on care, discomfort, attention and collective action gesturing towards change. Exploring intimacy in proximity with cameras watching over, emerging outside of cocooning, moving with socio-political recalibration into an inclusive sense of WE.

Beyond this moment of pause, compression and enclosure, how do we emerge? And to what kind of world? Breaking the boundaries of screens and reorienting in public space to re-experience how we are intrinsically connected to our environments.

The film and sound composition is compiled and edited from explorative daily practices created for the group and documented by LCDS students

…ANDWHEREAREWENOW?

This audio walk/ sensory-scape comes from a collaborative practice between Fernanda Muños-Newsome and designer Fran Edgerley, now collaboratively facilitated, edited and compiled by the group, with sound by Tommy Hodgkins. It is designed as a structure that can be taken on and organised by different groups of people. It can be practiced in any location, public space, at home, inside or outside and is accessible and inclusive.

A collection of embodied invitations and imaginative offerings encouraging slowing down to reorient from our senses while connecting with our surroundings as both a political act of resistance and a privilege. What happens if people collectively engage in subtle daily practices rejecting our bodies and attentions as tools for capitalism to usurp?

A process of detuning a loud rational mind, while prioritising becoming bone, moon, shadow, texture, light & sound. The walk opens up experiences of potential cosmic endlessness and weighted ground, reconnecting with sensorial power, journeying from private into public space

Z e r o & ….ANDWHEREAREWENOW? are two works in the online exhibition CYBER RATS, despite it all... presenting commissioned works by Jamila Johnson-Small, Thick and Tight, Fernanda Muñoz-Newsome and Leah Marojevic in collaboration with the London Contemporary Dance School class of 2020.

Bios:

Choreographer/ Artist

Fernanda Muñoz-Newsome’s practice involves dancing / voicing as political gesture, presenting in institutions, alternative spaces and clubs. She is interested in creating work which shifts perspectives, crafting inclusive spaces of potential power where care and consent promote exploration and agency in times of immense unrest and uprising. Her work is collaborative and immerse, exploring between curation, choreography and workshop with audiences, musicians, composers, electronic music producers and artists from different genres. In 2019 she received a Jerwood New Work Fund and curated a Wild Card at Sadlers Wells where her work INCHOATE BUZZ premiered. She has a Live Art Commission from David Robert Art Foundation for 2021.

Aritst/ Film Editor

Leah Clements is an artist based in London whose practice is based mostly in film and performance, and is concerned with the relationship between the psychological, emotional, and physical, often through personal accounts of unusual or hard-to-articulate experiences. Her work also focuses on sickness/cripness/disability in art, in critical and practical ways. In March 2019 Leah launched Access Docs for Artists: an online resource made in collaboration with Lizzy Rose and Alice Hattrick to help disabled artists create and use access documents.

Designer

Fran Edgerley is a member of the architecture and design collective Assemble, with whom she works to look critically at the processes that produce our built environment. She is particularly focused on the possibilities in collective and co-operative relations created by different social, organisational and architectural structures. Recently, her personal work has explored how the invisible architectures of language, education and social relations shape our lives.

Composer

Heloise Tunstall Behrens, is a composer working in the field between vocal and instrumental music, electronics and performance. She has been exploring the spatialisation of sound and the resonance of bodies, space and objects within an embodied musical practice, which is inspired by collective behaviours.
