zephyr by Madelyn Sher (2018)
Inspired by the California zephyr, a passenger train that delivers passengers from San Fransisco to Chicago, "zephyr" looks at trains as metaphors for one's personal journey through time. This includes departures from the past; the constant, circular rhythm of history; the arrival at a destination; and the subsequent decay of the journey itself. Constructed as a site-specific project in the warehouse occupied by the Triple 9 Festival during April and May 2018, the piece was (almost entirely) viewed by an audience that watched from outside of a room as performers lived out the stories and memories of their characters within this contained space.
