An immersive dance performance for young audience becomes a fantasy superhero galaxy: moonstones, ice lakes, and magical creatures set the scene for a story of adventure and discovery. Working with the idea of 'queering the superhero' Riiviöt Collective represents multi-layered queer and non-binary identities through the characters Elastrix and Stromax. Elastrix possesses the power of elasticity, and Stromax electricity; they have never met each other. Suddenly one day, the two superheroes meet in an unexpected way. Elastrix and Stromax learn to encounter their differences, and ultimately work as a team. They decide to take care of the galaxy as a pair, flying high through the air together.
In Super We, Super Me, Riiviöt questions the images of strength and superpower that children grow up with. What kind of superheroes do we need today? What could superheroes accomplish if they would work together as a team? How could I represent myself as a superhero? Together with designers Katri Saloniemi and Helene Scheithe, sound design by Gil Schneider, and dramaturgy by Canan Erek, they create a utopian world full of objects, colors and sounds, which invites the children to join in and become superheroes themselves. Through an interactive post-performance game, the children play with imagination, movement exploration, and team collaboration.
