JUNTOS Collective is an organization that works to build community through dance
involvement 2016-2018
JUNTOS aims to provide dance exposure primarily to Latinx underserved communities, local and international, such as women’s safe homes, migrant and immigrant centers, foster homes, retirement centers, hospitals, and youth programs. Through movement workshops, we hope participants discover new creative expressions that invite and encourage confidence, self-esteem, and self-expression.
As a student volunteer Tasha travelled on two-week performance and teaching outreach trips to Nicaragua, Guatemala, and Mexico, and worked in community projects in San Francisco CA, and New York City. JUNTOS performs in remote communities and intimate spaces - repertory by Joanna Poz Molesky, Alivia Schaffer, Wilder Project, among others. The trips also include a large teaching component - offering dance technique and creative movement workshops and masterclasses to people ages 3-18+ in Spanish, seated movement classes, and trauma sensitive teaching approaches
In spring 2018 Tasha worked as the manager of the first iteration of the JUNTOS New York Membership Program under the mentorship of Joanna Poz Molesky and Amy McMurchie. This was a semester long program of community dance engagements liaising university dance students in the New York area with local community arts + outreach organizations. In this role Tasha was responsible for administrative communication with program participants, coordinating with representatives at arts and community partner organizations in the NYC area, directing rehearsals, mentoring and leading group discussions, overseeing student-taught community workshops and outreach performances with: True Care NY, Kids In Need of Defense, La Contenta, and Callpulí Mexican Dance Company, and production management for the evening length show Colaboración at Folley Gallery, NYC
